Kemenparekraf Will Apply the CHS Program in Destinations, Bali Becomes a Pilot Project

Jakarta, 15 May 2020 - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will implement the CHS (Cleanliness, Health, and Safety) program in every destination and other locations related to tourism and the creative economy as a strategy to accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector and the creative economy after the COVID-19 epidemic.
Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy / Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani during a meeting with Deputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, Thursday (05/14/2020), said, currently Kemenparekraf is preparing recovery steps between others develop SOPs that refer to health, hygiene and safety standards. Details of the recovery program will be discussed and communicated to all tourism and creative economy stakeholders.
"Kemenparekraf is cooperating with the Ministry of Health and related institutions in conducting surveys, verifying the implementation of CHS SOPs properly and correctly in accordance with established standards," said Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani.
As the main destination for Indonesian tourism, Bali is set to become a pilot project in the implementation of the CHS program to later be implemented in other regions in Indonesia.
He said it was inevitable because the COVID-19 pandemic had made new human behavior (new normal). Where people are far more concerned with factors of cleanliness, health, and safety, including for tourism destinations.
Because it is fitting to do adjustments so that after the tourism epidemic becomes a sector that can recover quickly. As President Joko Widodo predicted, the tourism sector will boom after the outbreak ends.
"The CHS movement aims to increase tourist confidence in Indonesia's tourism destinations and industry after COVID-19 so as to encourage increased tourist movements and visits in Indonesia, which in the initial stages will certainly be dominated by domestic tourists," said Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani at the Bali Governor's office .

In general, Giri explained, the concept of CHS refers to the health protocol issued by the Ministry of Health and the concept of sustainable tourism development and specifically implements Sapta Pesona which is the soul of Indonesian tourism. Separately it can be said that the concept of Cleanliness refers to the state of being free of impurities, including dust, garbage and odors. Apart from that cleanliness also means a lot from viruses, pathogenic bacteria, and harmful chemicals.
While Health (health) is a service that implements health rules or regulations on humans and the environment through prevention, care, monitoring and control activities. In addition, it also plays a role by promoting the improvement of environmental parameters and encouraging the use of environmentally friendly and healthy technologies and behaviors.
While Safety (safety) has included the safety factor is a condition free from risks, hazards, pollution, threats, disruptions that are permanent and non-permanent, physical and non-physical in a certain place and time to manage, protect and increase the vigilance of the community, visitors and environmental quality .
And no less important is zero waste management where the destination manager must have a strategy and implement good waste management policies.
"It needs to be tested from the application of the CHS SOP, which will later become a guide for local governments, tourism destination managers and tourism business managers, as well as tourism stakeholders and other creative economies," said Giri.
"Afterwards, CHS verification, audit and certification will be carried out by involving certification bodies," said Giri.
"In this way, it is expected that a clean, healthy and safe destination and tourism industry can be realized so that it does not pose a health risk to tourists, managers and the community," said Giri.
For the initial stage, this program will try to be implemented in Bali. Because apart from being a major magnet for tourists, both the archipelago and abroad, Bali is also one of the provinces in Indonesia with a controlled distribution of COVID-29 and a very good handling of COVID-19. Although Bali is a tourism center with many tourists visiting, Bali is not an area that is the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Until now there are 332 positive cases of Corona in Bali, 220 people recovered and 4 people died.
"The application will also be carried out in stages, for the first planned in the Nusa Dua area of Bali," said Giri.
