COLLECT MOMENTS, NOT THINGS @ ALILA VILLAS SOORI
Renowned Balinese artist Wayan Gede Susana brings his characteristic figurative and colourful paintings to Alila Villas Soori for an exhibition that explores new formats for communication that break the limits of space and context.
Born in Mas Ubud in 1965, Susana expressed artistic concerns at a young age partly due to a strong family influence, as his father and uncles were part of the wood-sculpting legacy that the small town of Mas is famous for. When he was 15 years old, Susana started to explore different techniques that drove him to develop an abstract and reflexive sense for art that characterizes his work. His architectural studies at Udayana University have given him a mature vision in the compositive use of materials, colours and their combinations, and also drove Susana to experiment with different techniques and materials such as beach sand, wood and steel shavings.
The exhibition Collect Moments, Not Things shows the artist’s traversed path and his struggle to expand the limits of defined space within the canvas to go beyond the artwork itself. Always interactive and reflexive, his artwork encourages you to analyse its colour, form and texture, which stimulates diverse enigmatic sensations. Continues until November 14.
